0143. New Zealand (North Island) - Cape Reinga Lighthouse (Tiki Tour)...


The Tiki Tour termed in New Zealand,  is known as "roundabout way" or "scenic route" in other countries.  Tiki Tour is all about enjoying the journey as much as the destination, and checking out as many national icons as you can along the way.

Tiki Tour stamp album is the new edition of 24 stamps designed to capture the "get up and go" spirit of the classic Kiwi Tiki Tour, celebrating so many of the New Zealand's home-grown fascination(s) across the land.  The unique Wildlife, Landscapes, Buildings, Statues and Industries are all there in the Tiki Tour stamp sheet.

On 5-Aug-2009, New Zealand Post released the Tiki Tour of New Zealand No.1 stamp sheet which had 24 gummed stamp(s), with each of them denominated 50 cents.  The Cape Reinga Lighthouse was commemorated on this Tiki Tour stamp sheet.

0142. Russia - Mys Svyatoy Nos Lighthouse


Svyatoy Nos, a narrow peninsula that project northward into the Barents Sea to the entrance of the White Sea.  The Svyatoy Nos is in the Kila peninsula, a broad eastward-pointing peninsula that separates the Barents Sea from the nearly enclosed White Sea.  The Kola peninsula lies almost completely to the North of the Arctic circle.

The Mys Svyatoy Nos Lighthouse is located  on the West side of Svyatoy Nos, South South-East of the tip of the peninsula.  This Lighthouse is the oldest surviving lighthouse in the Russian Arctic and also the first steam-powered foghorn installed in 1872.  The Fresnel lens was installed in 1890.  In 2002, the Lighthouse was declared a National Historic Monument.

Mys Svyatoy Nos Lighthouse was commemorated by Russian Postal Administration with the release of 8.00 stamp on 4-Jul-2005.  This is one of the three stamps picturing Lighthouse(s) on the Barents Sea.

0141. Norway - Medfjordbåen Lighthouse



Medfjordbåen Lighthouse is located  in the lower Oslofjord off the west coast, North-East of Tonsberg.  The Lighthouse stands outside Slagentangen in the county of Vestfold.  Medfjordbåen Lighthouse is a familiar rounding mark in the annual Faerder Regatta, on the way to Asgardstrand and Horten.  

Medfjordbåen Lighthouse was commemorated by Norway Post in its Norwegian Lighthouse Series-III with the release of a domestic / inland stamp on 15-Jun-2012.  The First vertical stamp released in this Norwegian Lighthouse Series.

Built in the year 1876, the Medfjordbåen Lighthouse:
  • Tower is slender ROUND CYLINDRICAL
  • Tower supports a ROUND watch room with small lantern on the roof
  • Height is 13 metres

0140. Norway - Kavringen Lighthouse


Kavringen Lighthouse is located  in the inner harbour of Oslo, between Hovedoya and Filipstad container terminal.  The Lighthouse is visible from the harbour of Oslo.  Lighthouse is accessible only by boat.  The Lighthouse guides vessels in the region Hovedoya, Vippetangen and into Bjorvika.  

In 1890, when DS Norge ran aground on the Kavringen skerries, it was felt to have to better lighting to the western approach.  This led to the construction of the Kavringen Lighthouse in 1892.

Kavringen Lighthouse was commemorated by Norway Post in its Norwegian Lighthouse Series-III with the release of a domestic / inland stamp on 15-Jun-2012.   The First vertical stamp released in this Norwegian Lighthouse Series.

Built in the year 1892, the KAVRINGEN Lighthouse:
  • Tower is OCTAGONAL wood
  • Tower painted WHITE with one narrow RED HORIZONTAL band

0139. New Zealand (South Island) - Farewell Spit Lighthouse



Farewell Spit is a narrow sand spit at the Northern end of the South Island of New Zealand.  It is the South Island's northernmost point and is the longest sandspit in New Zealand.  Farewell Spit Lighthouse is located at Bush End Point near the end of the spit.  The area is critically important bird nesting area and is closed to the general public.

Farewell Spit Lighthouse was commemorated in 1976 series of New Zealand Government Life Insurance Office 10c stamp released on 17-Nov-1976. 

Built in the year 1897, the FAREWELL SPIT Lighthouse:

0138. New Zealand (South Island) - Moeraki Point Lighthouse


In New Zealand, over the years the stamps were limited to the pre-payment of postage on correspondence posted by the Government Life Insurance Office for delivery within the country. But, on 27-Mar-1969, this condition was relaxed and the stamps could be used on mail to both inland and overseas addresses. 

1969, marked the centenary of the founding of the Government Life Insurance Office and a new series of stamps was issued to mark this occasion.  Lighthouses, the symbol of the New Zealand Government Life Insurance Department, were again the subject depicted on the stamps.

Moeraki Point Lighthouse was commemorated in the 1969 series of New Zealand Government Life Insurance Office ½c stamp released on 27-Mar-1969. 

The change in the name of the business from "Government Life Insurance Department" to "Government Life Insurance Office" was also marked from the 1969 stamp series.

Moeraki Point also known as Katiki Point Lighthouse is situated between the settlements of Moeraki and Katiki, on the tip of the Moeraki Peninsula, which is known as Katiki Point or Moeraki Point.  The point has a long history of wrecks.  Tthe Moeraki Point Lighthouse was built, following several accidents on the dangerous reefs around the area, to make the area safer for ships that sailed past on their way to Port Chalmers, Dunedin.

  • Tower is HEXAGONAL wood
  • Tower painted WHITE
  • Height is 8.5 metres

0137. New Zealand (North Island) - Cape Reinga Lighthouse


A popular spot for tourists, Cape Reinga is as far North in New Zealand's North Island.  Cape Reinga marks the point where the Tasman Sea meets the Pacific Ocean. 

The Cape Reinga Lighthouse was commemorated by New Zealand Post with the release of $1.40 stamp on 23-May-2012 under the "Scenic Definitives Series 2012".

0136. Croatia - Pokonji dol Lighthouse


Pokonji dol is a round shape Islet, situated South-East of the harbour of Hvar.   The Pokonji dol Lighthouse is located in the central part of the islet.  The Lighthouse got its name after the islet on which it was built.  The Lighthouse is a one of the valuable tourist souvenirs of Hvar.  Ships arriving in Hvar from Adriatic must pass close to the islet.

The combination of the white light beam from Pokonji dol along with the red flash beam from the nearby island of Jerolim guides the sea passage for the sailing ships.   The strong light beams marks the sailing route from the Islands of Korcula, Lastova and Susac towards the Hell's Islands.  The light is automated. 

The Pokonji dol Lighthouse was commemorated by Croatian Post with the release of 7.10 HRK (Croatian Kuna) stamp on 31-May-2012.

0135. Croatia - St. Nicholas Lighthouse


The St. Nicholas Lighthouse is one of the smallest Adriatic Lighthouse(s).  It is located on the biggest Dalmatian Island of Brač and in the Central part of the North coast of the Island.   The Lighthouse was built of the proximity of the quarry of Brac.   

Initially, it was planned to built a huge stone Lighthouse, but due to the non-availability of workers, in 1882, a relatively smallest lighthouse was erected.   But, the strong Light lenses and the resulting light beam, guides the sailing ships to Pucisca.  

The Lighthouse was automated in 1990s and since then only voyagers drop by.   Many tourists who spend their summer in Pucisca are not aware of this building - a valuable, cultural and historical monument at the outer promontory of the bay.  The light of St. Nicholas marks the only safe refuge to every day greater number of yachtsmen who cruise along the Northern coast of the Island of Brac. 

The St. Nicholas Lighthouse was commemorated by Croatian Post with the release of 7.10 HRK (Croatian Kuna) stamp on 31-May-2012.
