0164. Philippines - Bagacay Lighthouse

 
Bagacay Lighthouse is one of the earliest Lighthouses to be built in the Philippines by the U.S.administration.  The light marks the entrance to the Mactan Channel, which leads to the Cebu city.  The Lighthouse is located on the point near Liloan, about North-East of Cebu city.  Bagacay Lighthouse is in Cebu Province along the East Coast in the Central Visayas Region of Southern Philippines.
 
The Bagacay Light was originally established in 1857 by the then ruling Spanish Government.  For over 100 years, the Lighthouse has provided guiding light to mariners, navigators and fishermen from coastal towns in Northern Cebu.

0163. Philippines - Cape Santiago Lighthouse


Cape Santiago Lighthouse is in Batangas Province, a first class province of the Philippines located on the South-Western part of the Luzon Island in the Calabarzon region. The Lighthouse differs from Isla de Cabra and Punta Capones chiefly in being ROUND rather than SQUARE.

The Lighthouse withstood typhoons, earthquakes and other calamities.  It even withstood the Spanish, American and Japanese wars.  The Lighthouse is said to be the oldest structure in Calatagan.  The Lighthouse serves as a guide to vessels from Manila heading to the Southern islands of Visayas.  It also guides ships heading towards Manila.  The Lighthouse is providing active passageway for more than a century.

0162. Philippines - San Fernando Point Lighthouse


The San Fernando Point Lighthouse is located on the Southern portion of the Port of San Fernando.  Located on a headland at the end of a club-shaped peninsula, West of San Fernando and the eastern entrance to Lingayan Gulf, the Lighthouse is positioned 3 meters from the sea and serves primarily domestic shipping.  The Lighthouse was established by the Spanish authorities as a local light serving the needs of local shipping such as mail boats and fishing boats.  

San Fernando Point Lighthouse is in La Union Province of the Luzon Island, the largest island of Philippines.

0161. Philippines - Cape Bolinao Lighthouse


The Cape Bolinao Lighthouse is the best known U.S. built Lighthouse in Philippines.  The Lighthouse is located on the South-West of the point of the Cape.   Cape Bolinao Lighthouse is in Western Coast of the Pangasinan Province of the Luzon Island, the largest island of Philippines.

0160. Philippines - Cape Bojeador Lighthouse


The Cape Bojeador Lighthouse is a Historic Lighthouse with its classic Spanish colonial architecture.  This is best known and most visited Lighthouse in Philippines.  During the earthquake in 1990, the portion of the original 1st order Fresnel lens was badly damaged.  Presently, the Lighthouse is operated under an agreement with Cape Bojeador Lighthouse Development Inc.

The Cape Bojeador Lighthouse also known as Burgos Lighthouse is a Cultural Heritage in the Ilocos Norte Province.  The Lighthouse was first lit on 1892 and set high on Vigia de Nagparitan Hill overlooking the scenic Cape Bojeador.  The Lighthouse guides the international ships safely into the Philippine Archipelago from the North.

The Lighthouse marks the North-Western point in Luzon.  Opposite side on North-Eastern point is marked by Cape Engano Lighthouse.   In 2004, the Lighthouse was declared a National Historical Landmark and in 2005 as a National Cultural Treasure by the Philippine Government.

0159. Philippines - Tubbataha Lighthouse


The Tubbataha Lighthouse is located on South Tubbataha.  The Tubbataha Reefs are two coral atolls in the center of the Sulu Sea.  The un-inhabitated islands are preserved as the Tubbataha Reefs National Park.  It is nominated at the New Seven Wonders of Nature.  The Tubbataha Reefs are one of the best known scuba diving locations in the Philippines.

0156. Norway - Tranøy Lighthouse


The Tranøy Lighthouse is located on a small island on the South side of the upper Vestfjord and North of Hamarøy.  Tranøy Lighthouse was built in 1914 in Mohalmen in the Lofoten Islands; it was replaced by a shorter tower and got relocated here in 1936.  The Lighthouse has a easy access and the site is remarkably scenic with a spectacular view across the Vestfjord to the high mountaines of the Lofoten Islands.  

Tranøy Lighthouse was commemorated by Norway Post in its Norwegian Lighthouse Series-I with the release of a domestic / inland stamp on 1-Sep-2005.

Established in 1864 and relocated in 1936, the Tranøy Lighthouse:

0155. Norway - Jomfruland Lighthouse


Norway, the Land of Midnight Sun, has large number of lighthouses along its coastline of 60,000 km long.  Jomfruland Lighthouse is located near the center of the Jomfruland island which comes under the Telemark county of Larvik Area.  Jomfruland is a low island, lying parallel to the coast of the Skagerrak off the mouth of the Kragerofjord.  The location houses the inactive old round brick tower built in 1839.

Jomfruland Lighthouse was commemorated by Norway Post in its Norwegian Lighthouse Series-I with the release of a domestic / inland stamp on 1-Sep-2005.
