0094. China - Twin Pagoda Lighthouse Picture Postcard


The twin Jiangxinyu Lighthouse was built in 869 AD and 969 AD.  According to Wenzhou County annals, this Tang Dynasty pagoda was built as a day-beacon for sailors arriving in Wenzhou.  The second Lighthouse was built exactly 100 years after the first.

The Lighthouse(s) are located at the Eastern end of Jiangxin Island in Wenzhou.

Both Jiangxinyu pagodas were listed as National Cultural Heritage Sites. 

China commemorated the Twin Pagoda Lighthouse by the release of 80f stamp on 18-May-2002. 

Built in 869 AD, the old Jiangxinyu Lighthouse:
  • Tower is HEXAGONAL stone
  • Tower is now partially in ruins
 
Built in 969 AD, the New Jiangxinyu Lighthouse:
  • Tower is HEXAGONAL stone
  • Tower is with 5 balconies and a pyramidal roof

0093. China - Lin'gao Lighthouse Picture Postcard

Lin'gao Lighthouse was built in 1894 in the North-West end of Hainan Island.  The Lighthouse was very important, marking the route from Qiongzhou Strait to North Ban and South-East Asia.  The Lighthouse is made of steel.
 
This is one of the Chinese Lighthouse which was elected as Historical Lighthouse(s) of the World by the International Association of Maritime Airs to Navigation and Lighthouse Authorities in 1997.
 
China commemorated the Lingao Lighthouse by the release of 80f stamp on 18-May-2002. 
 
Built in 1893, the Lin'gao Lighthouse:
  • Tower is HEXAGONAL PYRAMIDAL skeletal
  • Tower is with lantern, gallery and central cylinder
  • Tower is painted RED and WHITE HORIZONTAL bands
  • Height is 21 meters
  • Colour scheme of LIGHT is WHITE
  • Light character is 3 (three) FLASHES followed by one longer WHITE flash every 27 seconds

0072. China - Laotieshan Lighthouse Picture Postcard


Laotieshan Lighthouse is a historic lighthouse in the South-Western tip of the Liaodong Peninsula.  Installed by Chinese authorities, the Lighthouse was managed by Russia, Japan and Soviet Union in different periods of time before being returned to the control of China.

The Lighthouse was located about 12 kms South-West of Lushun (known as Port Arthur during the colonial period)


China commemorated the Laotieshan Lighthouse by the release of 80f stamp on 18-May-2002.

Built in 1893, the Laotieshan Lighthouse:
  • Tower is ROUND CYLINDRICAL cast-iron
  • Tower is painted WHITE
  • Height is 14 meters
  • Colour scheme of LIGHT is WHITE
  • Light character is 2 (two) FLASHES every 30 seconds

0069. China - Huaniaoshan (Huaniao Shan) Lighthouse Picture Postcard


Huaniaoshan Lighthouse is located on the Northernmost tip of the Huaniao Shan Island.  The Lighthouse serves as an Navigational aid for the vessels arriving Shanghai from South.  The Lighthouse is accessible by road within the Island and by boat / ferry to the Island.

The Lighthouse was elected as one of the Historical Lighthouses of the World by the International Association of Maritime Aides to Navigation and Lighthouse Authorities in 1997.

China commemorated the Huaniaoshan Lighthouse by the release of 80f stamp on 18-May-2002.

Built in 1870, the Huaniaoshan (Huaniao Shan) Lighthouse:

  • Tower is ROUND brick
  • Tower is painted BLACK with WHITE horizontal base
  • Height is 16.5 meters
  • Colour scheme of LIGHT is WHITE
  • Light character is a FLASH every 15 seconds
