0002. India - Mangalore Lighthouse Picture Cancellation

The cancellation depicts the Mangalore Lighthouse, the coastal city of Karnataka.  The Lighthouse was constructed by the 18th century ruler, Tipu Sultan.  Tipu Sultan personally wanted to develop the city as great naval importance.  The port city acted as a valuable tract of land containing a port of commercial and strategic importance to his capital, Mysore.

Because of high rise buildings, the view of the Lighthouse was obstructed and hence, the Lighthouse has become non-operational.  The surroundings of the Lighthouse was made into a park, which was named after the great Indian poet, Rabindranath Tagore.

The Mangalore Lighthouse:
  • Tower is Masonary with Square lattern
  • ELEVATION is around 15 metres
  • Presently non-operational
